HSN Chapter 76 covers aluminium and articles fabricated from aluminium and its alloys. Within this chapter the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has notified 26 tariff lines spanning heading 7607 (aluminium foil), heading 7612 (aluminium casks, drums and containers), heading 7615 (table, kitchen and household articles) and heading 7616 (other articles of aluminium). The notified lines run across foil for tea-chest lining, plain and embossed foil, perforated and coated foil, aluminium drums, containers for compressed gas, pressure cookers, and household articles.
Ten Indian Standards govern the chapter. IS 15392 (aluminium foil for packaging) and IS 16011 (aluminium foil for general purposes) dominate the heading-7607 lines. IS 14407 and IS 18427 cover collapsible tubes and containers under heading 7612. IS 1660 governs pressure cookers, IS 7902 covers non-stick cookware, and IS 17803 applies to household articles. All 26 codes fall under the ISI Mark Scheme (Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS Conformity Assessment Regulations, 2018), requiring a CM/L licence for manufacture in India and an FMCS licence for foreign-origin imports.
