Aluminium tanks, vats and similar large-capacity containers
HSN 7611 00 00 (aluminium reservoirs, tanks, vats and similar containers exceeding 300 L) is subject to compulsory registration under the Non-Ferrous Metals Import Monitoring System (NFMIMS) administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under DGFT Notification 61/2015-2020 dated 31-03-2021. Importers must obtain an automatic NFMIMS registration number by submitting advance information online and paying a registration fee of ₹500 before consignment arrival.
- NFMIMS registration number from DGFT
- Online advance registration from NIMS
- ITC (HS) policy compliance from DGFT
Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Directorate General of Foreign Trade.
- 1Register the import on the NFMIMS online portal under Annexure-II (aluminium) before the consignment arrives. Pay the registration fee of ₹500; the system issues an automatic registration number valid for 75 days. Applications may be submitted up to 60 days before the expected date of arrival — but not later than the date of arrival, as the prior minimum lead-time of 5 days has been abolished.DGFT Notification 61/2015-2020 dated 31-03-2021 · S.O. 3759(E) · DGFT Notification 26/2016-20 dated 10-08-2022
- 2Ensure the NFMIMS registration number is quoted on the bill of entry at the port of import. The registration number is valid for 75 days from issuance; a consignment presented after the 75-day window requires a fresh registration before out-of-charge can be granted.DGFT Notification 61/2015-2020 dated 31-03-2021 · DGFT Policy Circular 42/2015-2020 dated 27-07-2022
The most common error on this tariff line is applying for NFMIMS registration too close to — or after — vessel departure, then discovering the 75-day validity window has been miscalculated against actual arrival. Although the minimum advance lead-time requirement has been abolished, registration still cannot be obtained retrospectively; a consignment arriving without a live registration number will be detained at the port of entry pending fresh online registration, attracting demurrage and ground rent. Confirm the expected arrival date precisely before filing.
