BIS schemes
The five BIS regimes governing product certification in India.
ISI Mark Scheme
Covers Indian manufacturers of QCO-notified products under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS Conformity Assessment Regulations, 2018. Typical timeline: 4 to 6 months. Includes factory inspection by a BIS officer.
Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme
Covers non-Indian factories shipping ISI-marked goods to India. Typical timeline: 6 to 9 months. Requires overseas factory inspection by a BIS officer and an Authorised Indian Representative (AIR) registered on manakonline.in.
Compulsory Registration Scheme
Covers electronics and IT goods notified under the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, per Scheme-II of Schedule-II. Typical timeline: 4 to 8 weeks. No factory inspection — laboratory test report is the basis.
Hallmarking Scheme
Covers gold, silver, and platinum articles under the Hallmarking regime. Typical timeline: 2 to 4 weeks for jeweller registration. Includes Assaying and Hallmarking Centre (AHC) verification of each consignment.
Scheme-X
