HSN 8443 32 50 (ink jet printers) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to IS 13252 (and concurrently IS/IEC 62368 Part 1:2023) is mandatory under the Compulsory Registration Scheme with effect from 18 March 2021, by virtue of the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021. Wireless Planning and Coordination wing type-approval, Extended Producer Responsibility authorisation, and DGFT policy compliance apply as separate customs-clearance overlays.
Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Directorate General of Foreign Trade.
- 1Verify the foreign supplier's BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme R-number against IS 13252 (Part 1:2010) or IS/IEC 62368 Part 1:2023 on the BIS portal. The R-number must be model-specific, current on the shipping bill date, and cover the exact ink jet printer model being imported.Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021 · S.O. 1248(E) dated 18-03-2021 · S.O. 4997(E) dated 29-10-2025
- 2Confirm the concurrent-running window applies: for printers and multi-function devices (serial no. 65), IS 13252 Part 1:2010 and IS 616:2017 run concurrently with IS/IEC 62368 Part 1:2023 until 01 May 2026. The single most common error on this tariff line is registering the printer model under IS 13252 Part 1:2010 and treating compliance as complete, without tracking the concurrent-running deadline. For printers and multi-function devices falling at serial no. 65 of the Electronics and Information Technology Goods QCO, IS 13252 Part 1:2010 and IS 616:2017 are withdrawn as of 01 May 2026 — earlier than the general 01 November 2028 window — and post-deadline imports without a valid IS/IEC 62368 Part 1:2023 R-number will face consignment detention regardless of the prior registration status.
