Compliance steps
  1. 1
Register on the NFMIMS online portal before the consignment arrives, paying the ₹500 registration fee to obtain an automatic registration number. Registration may be applied not earlier than 60 days before the expected date of arrival; the registration number remains valid for 75 days.
    DGFT Notification 61/2015-2020 dated 31-03-2021 · S.O. 3759(E) · DGFT Notification 26/2016-20 dated 10-08-2022
  2. 2
Check whether the consignment falls within the Tariff Rate Quota of 10,000 MT for copper products (Chapter 74 and CTH 8544) under the revised India-Nepal Treaty for the relevant financial year. If so, ensure a TRQ allocation is obtained from DGFT as the designated authority before filing the bill of entry, in compliance with Para 2.92 of the Handbook of Procedures 2023.
DGFT Public Notice 17/2023 dated 22-06-2023 · Para 2.92 of the Handbook of Procedures, 2023
  3. 3
Verify compliance with all procedural conditions under DGFT Public Notice 17/2023 dated 22-06-2023 (paragraphs i to xv) governing TRQ allocation and monitoring for copper products. Non-compliance with the TRQ allocation procedure renders the consignment liable to detention and DGFT-policy enforcement.

A word of counsel

The most common error on this tariff line is filing the bill of entry without a live NFMIMS registration number — either because registration was applied for too late, or because the 75-day validity lapsed between registration and the consignment's actual arrival. The minimum advance-registration requirement has been reduced to zero days (per S.O. 3759(E)), but the 60-day outer window and the 75-day validity window remain in force; a lapsed or absent registration number will prevent out-of-charge regardless of the consignment's physical readiness.
