- 2Enter the PIMS Registration Number and its expiry date in the Bill of Entry at the time of filing. Multiple Bills of Entry are permitted under the same Registration Number within the validity period for the permitted quantity; failure to quote the Registration Number will prevent customs out-of-charge.DGFT Notification 11/2015-2020 dated 25-05-2022
- 3If importing into an SEZ, FTWZ, or EOU, obtain PIMS registration at the point of import into that unit. A DTA unit clearing unprocessed paper from an SEZ/FTWZ/EOU does not require fresh PIMS registration; however, if processing in the SEZ/FTWZ/EOU has resulted in a change of 8-digit HS code, the DTA importer must register under PIMS if the processed item falls within the covered tariff lines.DGFT Policy Circular 41/2015-2020 dated 05-07-2022 · DGFT Policy Circular 45/2015-20 dated 23-01-2023
The most common error on this tariff line is applying for PIMS registration too close to the consignment arrival date. The application window closes on the 5th day before expected arrival, and a registration submitted after that threshold is not valid for the incoming Bill of Entry — the consignment is detained at port pending a fresh registration cycle. Importers should also verify that the Registration Number has not expired between registration and the actual arrival date, as the 75-day validity is fixed and extensions are not provided under the PIMS framework.
