- 1Register on the PIMS online portal at imports.gov.in and obtain an automatic Registration Number by paying ₹500. Apply no earlier than the 75th day and no later than the 5th day before the expected date of arrival; the Registration Number remains valid for 75 days and covers multiple bills of entry for the permitted quantity within that window.DGFT Notification 11/2015-2020 dated 25-05-2022 · ITC (HS) 2022 Chapter 48 policy condition for 201 PIMS tariff lines
- 2Enter the PIMS Registration Number and its expiry date in the bill of entry at the time of filing. Customs will not grant out-of-charge clearance for any consignment where the Registration Number or expiry date is absent or expired on the bill of entry.DGFT Notification 11/2015-2020 dated 25-05-2022
- 3If importing into a SEZ, FTWZ, or as an EOU, obtain PIMS registration at the point of import into the zone. A DTA unit clearing unprocessed paper from a SEZ/FTWZ/EOU does not need fresh PIMS registration, but if processing in the zone results in an 8-digit HS code change to a PIMS-covered tariff line, the DTA importer must register independently.DGFT Policy Circular 41/2015-2020 dated 05-07-2022 · DGFT Policy Circular 45/2015-2020 dated 23-01-2023
The registration window is absolute: an application submitted on the 76th day before arrival or on the 4th day before arrival is rejected, and the consignment cannot be cleared until a valid Registration Number is obtained — attracting demurrage and ground rent while the importer re-applies and waits for the next eligible window. The 75-day validity of the Registration Number is a hard ceiling; consignments delayed beyond that validity require a fresh registration before any further bill of entry can be filed against the original number.
