IS 1161 (Specification for steel tubes for structural purposes) is the Indian Standard covering the dimensions, material grades and mechanical-property requirements for hot-finished welded and seamless steel tubes used in structural applications. IS 1161:2014 is enforced under the Steel Tubes (Quality Control) Order, 2020 (S.O. 281(E) dt 21-01-2020); covered goods must bear the BIS Standard Mark.
