- 1Obtain CDSCO registration for the dental drill engine as a medical device under the conditions prescribed in G.S.R. 102(E) dated 11-02-2020 issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The registration certificate must be current and available at the bill-of-entry stage.G.S.R. 102(E) dated 11-02-2020 · Medical Devices Rules, 2017
- 2If importing a used, old, or refurbished dental drill engine, verify that the specific equipment is listed among those permitted in old or refurbished condition per CBIC Instruction 08/2024-Customs dated 05-04-2024 and CBIC Instruction 25/2024-Customs dated 28-10-2024. Consignments of refurbished units not appearing on the permitted list are liable to detention and re-export.CBIC Instruction 08/2024-Customs dated 05-04-2024 · CBIC Instruction 25/2024-Customs dated 28-10-2024
The most common error on this tariff line is importing a refurbished or second-hand dental drill engine without confirming it appears on the CBIC-notified permitted list for old/refurbished medical equipment. CDSCO registration for a brand-new device does not automatically authorise import of an equivalent refurbished unit; the two tracks — new-device registration under G.S.R. 102(E) and old/refurbished permissibility under CBIC Instructions 08/2024-Customs and 25/2024-Customs — must both be satisfied independently.
