Electro encephalographs
Electroencephalographs, diagnostic brain-monitoring medical devices
HSN 9018 19 10 (Electro encephalographs) is subject to Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) registration under G.S.R. 102(E) dated 11-02-2020 issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW). Import is conditional on compliance with all registration and licensing requirements specified in that notification, and separate CBIC instructions govern the permissibility of old or refurbished units.
- Registration certificate from CDSCO
- Import licence from CDSCO
- MOHFW notification compliance from MOHFW
- 1Obtain CDSCO registration for the electroencephalograph in accordance with G.S.R. 102(E) dated 11-02-2020. The registration must cover the specific device and manufacturer, and all conditions specified in that notification — including importer-of-record licensing — must be satisfied before the bill of entry is filed.G.S.R. 102(E) dated 11-02-2020, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
- 2If the consignment comprises old or refurbished electroencephalographs, verify that the specific equipment appears on the permitted list under CBIC Instruction 08/2024-Customs dated 05-04-2024 and CBIC Instruction 25/2024-Customs dated 28-10-2024 before shipment. Import of old or refurbished medical devices not on the permitted list is not allowed and will result in consignment detention.CBIC Instruction 08/2024-Customs dated 05-04-2024; CBIC Instruction 25/2024-Customs dated 28-10-2024
The most frequent error on this tariff line is importing a refurbished or second-hand electroencephalograph without first confirming its inclusion on the CBIC-permitted list. A device that is duly CDSCO-registered in its new-equipment form is not automatically cleared for import in a refurbished state; the two clearance tracks — CDSCO registration and CBIC refurbished-equipment permission — are independent, and absence of either results in consignment detention, demurrage, and potential re-export at the importer's cost.
