Bicycle chains
Bicycle chains, a part of cycles and similar vehicles
HSN 8714 99 10 (Bicycle chains) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code (IEC), bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Other parts and accessories of vehicles under Chapter 87 — particularly components classified to headings covering complete cycles or motorised two-wheelers — may carry distinct compliance obligations.
The absence of compliance at this tariff line applies specifically to bicycle chains; parts and accessories for motorised vehicles under headings 8711 to 8713 (motorcycles, mopeds, and invalid carriages) may attract BIS or other regulatory requirements at the component level. Customs re-classification — for example, if a chain is presented as a motorcycle drive chain rather than a bicycle chain — can trigger retrospective duty recovery and detention pending the relevant licence. Confirm the intended use and vehicle type against the customs tariff before importing.
