  2. 2
Ensure the vehicle satisfies Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Rules compliance at the bill of entry: right-hand drive configuration, kilometre-graduated speedometer, headlamp photometry certification, and a homologation certificate or type approval certificate meeting Condition 7 of Chapter 87. Non-conformance renders clearance liable to refusal.

  3. 3

A word of counsel

The most common error on this tariff line is assuming that arrival at any of the 18 designated ports satisfies the port-restriction condition for all vehicle categories. Second-hand electric mopeds face a narrower restriction — Mumbai seaport only — and a consignment of used vehicles routed to, for instance, Mundra or Chennai Air Cargo is subject to detention and compelled re-export regardless of homologation status. Verify the new-versus-second-hand classification of every shipment before booking freight.
