The MTCTE notified list is amended periodically — the 25 February 2025 amendment (F.No.5-2/2024-TC/TEC (Pt.1)) expanded the scope of covered telecom equipment. The most common error is importing on the basis of a pre-amendment product assessment without rechecking whether the specific product sub-category has since been added to the notified list; a consignment that was freely importable before the amendment date attracts mandatory Type Approval enforcement at the port of import after it, with no transitional grace for in-transit goods.
