HSN 8516 50 00 (Microwave ovens) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 25):2014 is mandatory under the Compulsory Registration Scheme with effect from 07 September 2024, by virtue of the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021. Extended Producer Responsibility authorisation administered by the Central Pollution Control Board and Bureau of Energy Efficiency labelling apply as separate customs-clearance overlays.

An importer presenting a valid R-number against Sec 25 but missing the Electrical Appliances for Kitchen QCO compliance, or vice versa, faces detention at port; customs verifies both obligations against the BIS register independently.
