AC induction motors and generators exceeding 75 kW output
HSN 8501 53 90 (AC motors and generators above 75 kW, other) is subject to Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) labelling and compliance requirements under the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Appliance Labeling and Compliance) Regulations, 2026, issued vide Notification No. 5506/BEE/S&L/AL/2025-26 dated 26-12-2025. Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) general import policy applies at the bill-of-entry stage.
- Energy label compliance from BEE
- Conformance declaration from importer
- 1Verify that the motors or generators being imported comply with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Appliance Labeling and Compliance) Regulations, 2026. The BEE energy label must be affixed and the product must meet the prescribed efficiency parameters before the bill of entry is filed.BEE Notification No. 5506/BEE/S&L/AL/2025-26 dated 26-12-2025
- 2Upload the BEE compliance documentation in e-Sanchit at the bill of entry stage and ensure the energy-labelling declaration accompanies the consignment. Non-compliance with the Appliance Labeling and Compliance Regulations can result in detention of the consignment and refusal of out-of-charge.BEE Notification No. 5506/BEE/S&L/AL/2025-26 dated 26-12-2025
The most common error on this tariff line is importing equipment manufactured or ordered before 26 December 2025 and assuming the new BEE Appliance Labeling and Compliance Regulations, 2026 do not yet apply. The Notification No. 5506/BEE/S&L/AL/2025-26 governs importation at the bill-of-entry date, not at the date of manufacture or purchase order; consignments arriving without compliant energy labelling face detention and ground rent pending rectification or re-export.
