- 1Verify the foreign supplier's BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme R-number on the BIS portal against IS/IEC 62368 (Part 1):2023 before placing the purchase order. Confirm the R-number is model-specific and current on the date of the shipping bill.Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021 · S.O. 1248(E) dated 18-03-2021 · S.O. 4997(E) dated 29-10-2025
- 2Confirm which standard the supplier's R-number is registered against — IS/IEC 62368 (Part 1):2023, or the transitional IS 13252 (Part 1):2010 or IS 616:2017. For printers at serial no. 65 of the notification, concurrent running of IS 13252 and IS 616 with IS/IEC 62368 (Part 1) is permitted until 01-05-2026; for all other notified goods the concurrent period runs until 01-11-2028.S.O. 4997(E) dated 29-10-2025 · General Note 2(c) of the Import Policy · Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021

The Standard Mark must appear on the product itself and be traceable to the registered model.Scheme-II of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018 · S.O. 1248(E) dated 18-03-2021

The most common error on this tariff line is importing against an R-number registered under the transitional IS 13252 (Part 1):2010 or IS 616:2017 after the applicable concurrent-running deadline has lapsed — or, conversely, applying the wrong deadline because the printer model's serial number placement in the notification schedule is misidentified. Printers at serial no. 65 face the earlier 01-05-2026 cut-off for IS 13252 and IS 616; all other notified goods have until 01-11-2028. A model imported under an expired transitional standard after the deadline is non-compliant at port, triggering detention regardless of whether the R-number itself remains nominally active.
