Tower cranes
Tower cranes for construction and industrial use
HSN 8426 20 00 (Tower cranes) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code, bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Other lifting and hoisting equipment within Chapter 84 — including cranes fitted to works trucks or mobile lifting frames — may be classified under sibling tariff lines that carry distinct compliance obligations.
The absence of a Quality Control Order at this tariff line does not preclude domestic regulatory requirements once the crane is commissioned on-site; installation and operation of tower cranes in India may trigger obligations under the Factories Act, state building codes, or Construction Safety Regulations, none of which arise at the import stage. Misclassification risk is highest where a crane is imported partially assembled or mounted on a mobile carrier, which may shift classification to another heading within Chapter 84. Confirm the precise crane configuration and mounting arrangement against the customs tariff before filing the bill of entry.
