Combined refrigerator-freezers with separate external doors

HSN 8418 10 90 (combined refrigerator-freezers, other) is subject to Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) mandatory energy-labelling and compliance requirements under the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Appliance Labeling and Compliance) Regulations, 2026. Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) Extended Producer Responsibility authorisation under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 applies concurrently, and products containing ozone-depleting substances require a Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) licence under Rule 10 of the Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Rules, 2000.

Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.

   Ensure the consignment bears a BEE-compliant energy label meeting the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Appliance Labeling and Compliance) Regulations, 2026 before the bill of entry is filed. Non-compliant labelling renders the consignment liable to detention at the port of import.

   Obtain Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) authorisation from the Central Pollution Control Board for the import of refrigerators listed under Schedule I of the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022. The EPR obligation does not apply to micro-enterprises as defined under the MSME Development Act, 2006.

   If the refrigerator-freezer unit contains or uses an ozone-depleting substance listed in Schedule VII of the ODS Rules, obtain a DGFT import licence under Rule 10 of the Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Rules, 2000 before shipment. Units that do not contain ODS must carry a label to that effect, as required under General Note 8(A) of the Import Policy.
