Valve, inlet and exhaust
Inlet and exhaust valves for internal combustion engines
HSN 8409 99 11 (inlet and exhaust valves for internal combustion engines) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code (IEC), bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Other engine parts classified within Chapter 84 — particularly complete engines under headings 8407 and 8408 — may carry separate compliance obligations that do not extend to these components.
Classification of engine components is a frequent point of customs scrutiny: a part assessed as suitable for use with a specific engine type may be re-classified to a more specific tariff line, triggering retrospective compliance and potential detention. Importers should confirm that the declared tariff line accurately reflects the engine heading — 8407 (spark-ignition) or 8408 (compression-ignition) — for which the valves are principally designed. Packing-list descriptions that conflate engine type or omit intended application elevate re-classification risk.
