Register the consignment on the Non-Ferrous Metals Import Monitoring System portal under Annexure-II (aluminium) before arrival. Fee ₹500, registration valid for 75 days; apply no earlier than 60 days before the expected date of arrival. The minimum advance registration window of 5 days has been abolished.

If the importing entity qualifies as a micro enterprise under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, confirm the applicable deferred enforcement date (01-04-2026 for micro enterprises, 01-01-2026 for small enterprises) and document the exemption basis per para 2 of S.O. 2021(E).

The most consequential error on this tariff line is treating the four applicable Indian Standards as interchangeable and sourcing a CM/L licence against whichever standard is easiest to obtain. Each standard is product-form-specific — a CM/L against IS 733 does not cover EC-grade rod under IS 5484, and a licence for electrical-appliance sections under IS 5082 does not cover hollow sections under IS 1285. Customs verifies the licensed product scope against the declared goods description at port; a scope mismatch triggers detention regardless of whether the supplier otherwise holds a valid ISI CM/L.
