- 1Register on the NFMIMS online portal and obtain the automatic registration number before the consignment arrives. The application may be submitted no earlier than 60 days before the expected date of arrival; the registration number is valid for 75 days from issuance.DGFT Notification 61/2015-2020 dated 31-03-2021 · S.O. 3759(E) · DGFT Notification 26/2016-20 dated 10-08-2022
- 2Submit the advance import information for aluminium items as prescribed in Annexure-II of the NFMIMS framework and pay the registration fee of ₹500. The minimum advance-registration lead time has been abolished; registration may be applied for at any point up to the date of arrival.DGFT Notification 26/2016-20 dated 10-08-2022 · DGFT Policy Circular 42/2015-2020 dated 27-07-2022
The most common error on this tariff line is filing the bill of entry without a valid NFMIMS registration number, on the mistaken assumption that the advance-registration lead-time abolition also removed the registration requirement itself. The registration obligation under NFMIMS remains compulsory; only the minimum 5-day advance window has been eliminated. A consignment arriving without an active, unexpired registration number — valid for 75 days — faces detention at the port of import.
