- 2Note that the earlier mandatory minimum advance-registration window of 5 days before consignment arrival has been abolished — registration can be applied for up to and including the expected date of arrival. The automatic registration number is valid for 75 days from issuance; file the bill of entry within that validity window.S.O. 3759(E) · DGFT Notification 26/2016-20 dated 10-08-2022
The most common error on this tariff line is allowing the 75-day NFMIMS registration to lapse between application and actual bill-of-entry filing — particularly when vessel arrival is delayed. A lapsed registration requires a fresh application and a new ₹500 fee; customs out-of-charge cannot be granted against an expired registration number, and prolonged lapses attract detention and demurrage at the port of import.
