The most common error on this tariff line is treating the abolition of the minimum 5-day advance-registration window as an elimination of the NFMIMS obligation itself. Compulsory registration remains mandatory; only the minimum lead-time has been reduced to zero. A consignment arriving without a valid NFMIMS registration number is liable to detention at the port, and retrospective registration is not available — the registration window opens no earlier than 60 days before expected arrival and closes at arrival.
