Copper sanitary ware and parts thereof
HSN 7418 20 10 (Sanitary ware of copper) is subject to compulsory advance registration under the Non-Ferrous Metals Import Monitoring System (NFMIMS) administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) per DGFT Notification 61/2015-2020 dated 31-03-2021. Importers must obtain an automatic registration number at least prior to consignment arrival by submitting advance information and paying a registration fee of ₹500. A Tariff Rate Quota allocation administered by DGFT applies to copper products under Chapter 74 for eligible India-Nepal Treaty imports.
- NFMIMS registration number from DGFT
- TRQ allocation certificate from DGFT

- 2Verify applicability of the Tariff Rate Quota for copper products under Chapter 74 and CTH 8544 for the relevant financial year. If importing under the revised India-Nepal Treaty, confirm DGFT allocation under Para 2.92 of the Handbook of Procedures, 2023 and comply with all conditions at Para (i) to (xv) of DGFT Public Notice 17/2023.DGFT Public Notice 17/2023 dated 22-06-2023 · Para 2.92 of HBP, 2023
The most common error on this tariff line is treating the abolition of the minimum 5-day advance-registration window as an elimination of the NFMIMS obligation itself. Compulsory registration remains mandatory; only the minimum lead-time has been reduced to zero. A consignment arriving without a valid NFMIMS registration number is liable to detention at the port, and retrospective registration is not available — the registration window opens no earlier than 60 days before expected arrival and closes at arrival.
