The most common error on this tariff line is filing the bill of entry before the NFMIMS registration number has been obtained, on the assumption that registration can be completed concurrently with customs clearance. NFMIMS registration is a pre-arrival obligation; a consignment presented at the port without a valid registration number is subject to detention and the 75-day validity window means that registrations secured too early for a delayed vessel also lapse, requiring fresh registration with a new fee. Additionally, importers sourcing under the India-Nepal TRQ must hold a DGFT TRQ allocation before the bill of entry — the TRQ is finite and not automatically granted.
