The most common error on this tariff line is misreading the abolition of the 5-day minimum advance-registration window as an abolition of NFMIMS registration itself. Registration remains compulsory; only the minimum lead-time before arrival has been reduced to zero. A consignment arriving without a valid NFMIMS registration number — or with an expired number (validity: 75 days) — faces detention at port until the registration deficiency is remedied, with demurrage and ground rent accruing throughout.
