The most common error on this tariff line is applying for NFMIMS registration too close to the vessel's arrival date — or, worse, after the consignment has arrived. The automatic registration number must be obtained before arrival, and an application filed more than 60 days ahead is equally invalid. A missing or expired registration number at the bill-of-entry stage results in customs detention and prevents out-of-charge until a valid registration is produced.
