Note that the earlier requirement of a minimum 15-day advance registration from the expected date of arrival has been abolished. File the bill of entry quoting the SIMS registration number; absence of a valid registration number at the bill-of-entry stage renders the consignment non-compliant with ITC (HS) policy condition 2 of Chapter 73.

Verify whether the import falls under an exemption before registering: re-imports of enamelled iron or steel goods used solely for packaging purposes, and imports from SEZ to DTA (with or without value addition) of goods originally exported from DTA, are explicitly excluded from the SIMS requirement.
