HSN 7325 99 30 (stainless steel cast articles) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order under the Legal Metrology — Material Measures of Length (Quality Control) Order, 2023. Conformity to IS 1269 (Part 2):1997 is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 23 May 2024 for general importers, with phased effective dates for small and micro enterprises. Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.

The most common error on this tariff line is importing stainless steel cast articles that are generically classifiable under HSN 7325 99 30 without recognising that the QCO scope is specifically confined to steel tape measures under IS 1269 (Part 2):1997. Importers of other stainless steel castings — drain covers, manhole frames, architectural fittings — may incorrectly assume they face the same BIS obligation; equally, tape-measure importers may miss the QCO entirely because the eight-digit tariff descriptor does not name the product. Confirm product identity against the IS 1269 (Part 2):1997 scope before either sourcing or filing.
