- 1Source only from a Bureau of Indian Standards CM/L-licensed manufacturer holding a current licence against IS 16014:2018. Verify the supplier's CM/L number, licensed product scope, and licensed manufacturing facility on the BIS online register before placing the purchase order.Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes and Wire Mesh (Quality Control) Order, 2024 · S.O. 2581(E) dated 03-07-2024
- 2Confirm that the licence scope covers the specific product type being imported — mechanically woven double-twisted hexagonal wire mesh, gabions, revet mattresses, or rock fall netting, in galvanised steel wire or galvanised steel wire with polymer coating. Products outside the licensed scope are not covered.IS 16014:2018 · S.O. 2581(E) dated 03-07-2024 · Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018
- 3Ensure every product unit bears the ISI mark and the supplier's CM/L number per Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. - 4Register the consignment on the Steel Import Monitoring System portal no earlier than 60 days before the expected arrival date. - 5Quote both the supplier's BIS CM/L number and the SIMS registration number on the bill of entry. The phased enforcement dates under the Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes and Wire Mesh (Quality Control) Order, 2024 create a classification trap: the baseline date of 04 July 2024 applies only to enterprises other than micro and small, while small enterprises became subject from 01 March 2025 and micro enterprises from 01 June 2025. Importers dealing with MSMED-registered suppliers must verify the supplier's enterprise category before assuming an exemption window still applies — a supplier that has crossed the MSMED turnover threshold loses the deferred date, and goods imported after the applicable effective date without a CM/L licence are liable to detention and seizure.
