The most common error on this tariff line is allowing the 75-day SIMS registration validity to lapse between application and actual vessel arrival. If the consignment arrives after the registration has expired, a fresh application and fee are required before customs out-of-charge — causing detention and demurrage. Separately, confirm that the goods are not re-imports for packaging purposes or SEZ-to-DTA movements, both of which are explicitly exempt from SIMS under DGFT Policy Circular 38/2015-20 dated 19-01-2022, making a fresh registration in those scenarios an unnecessary and correctable delay.
