HSN 7307 92 90 (threaded elbows, bends and sleeves of iron or steel) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to IS 1879:2010 is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 1 September 2024, by virtue of the Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023. Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.

The most common oversight on this tariff line is failing to account for the staggered enforcement calendar: the IS 1879:2010 obligation applies to standard importers from 1 September 2024, but extends to small enterprises only from 1 December 2024 and to micro enterprises only from 1 March 2025. An importer who classifies a supplier as a micro enterprise to avail the later deadline — without documentary evidence of that enterprise's MSMED registration — faces detention under the default 1 September 2024 date on a challenge by customs.
