The most common error on this tariff line is applying for SIMS registration too close to the arrival date. The automatic registration number has a fixed validity of 75 days and the minimum 15-day lead-time requirement has been abolished — however, filing after the vessel has departed leaves no buffer if the online system rejects the application for data errors, and a consignment arriving without a valid SIMS number is detained at port pending regularisation, accruing demurrage and ground rent while the registration query is resolved.
