Wired float glass in sheets, other than coloured or patterned
HSN 7005 30 90 (wired float glass in sheets) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Conformity to IS 14900:2018 is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 31 December 2019, by virtue of the Transparent Float Glass (Quality Control) Order, 2021 notified under S.O. 03(E) and S.O. 1928(E). No separate customs-clearance overlay applies to this tariff line beyond the BIS QCO obligation.
- 1Source only from a Bureau of Indian Standards CM/L-licensed manufacturer holding a current licence against IS 14900:2018 for transparent float glass. Verify the supplier's CM/L number, licensed product scope, and licensed manufacturing facility on the BIS online register before placing the purchase order.Transparent Float Glass (Quality Control) Order, 2021 · S.O. 03(E) dated 31-12-2019 · S.O. 1928(E) dated 17-05-2021
- 2Ensure every sheet or batch of wired glass bears the ISI mark and the supplier's CM/L number under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The standard mark must appear on the product or its primary label — not packaging alone.Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018 · Transparent Float Glass (Quality Control) Order, 2021
- 3Obtain and retain the supplier's test reports demonstrating conformity to IS 14900:2018 for the specific glass thickness and wire-insertion specification of the consignment. Test reports must reference the licensed CM/L number and manufacturing facility.IS 14900:2018 · BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018
- 4Quote the supplier's BIS CM/L number on the bill of entry. Customs verifies the CM/L in real time against the BIS register; an absent, expired, or product-scope-mismatched CM/L licence triggers consignment detention, demurrage, and potential re-export or confiscation.Transparent Float Glass (Quality Control) Order, 2021 · BIS Act, 2016 · Customs Act, 1962
The most common error on this tariff line is assuming that a CM/L licence issued for transparent float glass automatically covers wired glass of all thicknesses and wire configurations. IS 14900:2018 specifications are scope-specific by glass thickness and surface finish; a CM/L licence covering one thickness or surface category does not extend to variants outside the licensed scope. Shipments of wired glass in sheet dimensions or thicknesses outside the CM/L's licensed range are detained at port regardless of whether the ISI mark appears on the product.
