- 3If importing into an SEZ, FTWZ, or EOU, register under PIMS at the point of entry into the zone. A DTA unit taking clearance from an SEZ/FTWZ/EOU requires its own PIMS registration only if processing in the zone has resulted in a change of 8-digit HS code to a tariff line covered under PIMS.DGFT Policy Circular 41/2015-2020 dated 05-07-2022 · DGFT Policy Circular 45/2015-20 dated 23-01-2023
The most common error on this tariff line is applying for PIMS registration too late — many importers treat it as a post-arrival formality rather than a pre-arrival obligation with a hard outer deadline of 5 days before consignment arrival. A registration applied for after that window cannot be backdated; the consignment is detained at port, attracting demurrage and ground rent, and the importer must re-export or seek regularisation. The 75-day validity window also means a single registration cannot cover a rolling programme of shipments beyond that period.
