- 1Register under PIMS at https://imports.gov.in by paying a registration fee of ₹500 and submitting advance import information. Apply not earlier than the 75th day and not later than the 5th day before the expected date of arrival; the automatic Registration Number remains valid for 75 days and permits multiple bills of entry for the permitted quantity within that window.DGFT Notification 11/2015-2020 dated 25-05-2022 · ITC (HS) 2022 Chapter 48 policy condition
- 2Enter the PIMS Registration Number and its expiry date in the bill of entry at the time of filing. Customs will not grant out-of-charge for consignments where the Registration Number is absent, expired, or where the quantity exceeds the registered quantity.DGFT Notification 11/2015-2020 dated 25-05-2022
- 3If importing into an SEZ, FTWZ, or as an EOU, register under PIMS at the point of entry into the SEZ/FTWZ/EOU. A DTA unit clearing processed goods from SEZ/FTWZ/EOU must separately register under PIMS only if processing has resulted in a change of HS code at the 8-digit level to a PIMS-covered tariff line.DGFT Policy Circular 41/2015-2020 dated 05-07-2022 · DGFT Policy Circular 45/2015-2020 dated 23-01-2023
The most common error on this tariff line is allowing the PIMS registration window to lapse before the vessel arrives — a Registration Number that expires before the bill of entry date is treated as no registration at all, triggering detention and demurrage while a fresh registration is obtained. Because the registration window opens only on the 75th day before expected arrival, importers who apply too early or too late are equally barred from clearance; align the registration date precisely against the vessel's ETA.
