- 2Enter the PIMS Registration Number and its expiry date in the bill of entry at the time of filing. Customs clearance of the consignment is contingent on this entry; bills of entry filed on or after 01-10-2022 for tariff lines listed in Annexure-I of the DGFT Notification are governed by PIMS.DGFT Notification 11/2015-2020 dated 25-05-2022
- 3If importing into an SEZ, FTWZ, or as an EOU, obtain PIMS registration at the point of import into the zone. A DTA unit clearing unprocessed paper from an SEZ/FTWZ/EOU does not require a fresh PIMS registration; however, if processing in the zone has resulted in a change of 8-digit HS code and the processed item falls under a PIMS-covered tariff line, the DTA importer must register separately.DGFT Policy Circular 41/2015-2020 dated 05-07-2022 · DGFT Policy Circular 45/2015-2020 dated 23-01-2023
The most common error on this tariff line is miscalculating the PIMS registration window and applying too late. The Registration Number must be obtained at least 5 days before the vessel's expected arrival; a consignment berthing before the number is issued cannot be cleared and incurs demurrage and ground rent while the importer retrospectively seeks registration. The 75-day validity cap means that early applications on forward-dated purchase orders may also expire before the shipment arrives, requiring a fresh application and fee payment.
