- 3If importing into a Special Economic Zone, Free Trade and Warehousing Zone, or Export Oriented Unit, obtain PIMS registration at the point of import into that zone. A DTA unit clearing unprocessed paper from an SEZ/FTWZ/EOU does not require a fresh PIMS registration; however, where processing has changed the 8-digit HS code, the DTA importer must register independently if the processed item falls within the PIMS-covered tariff lines.DGFT Policy Circular 41/2015-2020 dated 05-07-2022 · DGFT Policy Circular 45/2015-2020 dated 23-01-2023
The most common error on this tariff line is treating the 75-day application window as a formality and registering too close to the vessel's arrival date. The registration window closes 5 days before the expected arrival date — an application submitted after that threshold is rejected, leaving the consignment without a valid Registration Number at the bill-of-entry stage and exposing the importer to detention and demurrage while a fresh registration is obtained for the next eligible window. Track estimated time of arrival against the registration expiry date, not the registration grant date.
