Pineapple
Prepared or preserved pineapple, otherwise prepared fruit
HSN 2008 99 14 (Pineapple, otherwise prepared or preserved) is subject to Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Import Licence and label-compliance requirements under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including the FSS (Import) Regulations, 2017 and FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020. Import is permitted only through designated food-import entry points under General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of the ITC (HS) 2022, with Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) policy controls and Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) customs-clearance instructions applying as additional overlays.
- Import Licence from FSSAI
- Specimen copy of label from FSSAI
- Entry-point compliance from DGFT
Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.
- 1Obtain the FSSAI Import Licence and upload it in e-Sanchit under document code 911001 before filing the bill of entry. Also upload the Specimen Copy of Label (document code 0110FS); the proper officer will verify both documents before granting out-of-charge.FSSAI Import Licence document code 911001 · Specimen Copy of Label document code 0110FS · CBIC Instruction 10/2022-Customs dated 28-06-2022
- 2Route the consignment exclusively through a designated food-import entry point in compliance with General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of the ITC (HS) 2022. Arrival at a non-designated port renders the consignment liable to detention pending re-routing.General Note 4(D), Schedule I, ITC (HS) 2022 · CBIC Instruction 05/2023-Cus dated 08-02-2023
- 3Ensure labels comply with the FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020. Rectifiable deficiencies — including per-serve RDA contribution percentages and expiry-date formats — may be corrected at customs-bonded warehouses by affixing a single non-detachable sticker next to the principal display panel, without altering the original label, before inspection by the authorised officer.CBIC Instruction 10/2022-Customs dated 28-06-2022, Para 2(i) · FSSAI Letter 1828/Misc Matters/FSSAI/Imports-2021 dated 17-06-2022 · CBIC Instruction 09/2023-Cus dated 07-03-2023
The most common error on this tariff line is presenting labels that are deficient in FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 particulars — specifically the per-serve RDA contribution and dual-date (best before and expiry) requirements — without having arranged for bonded-warehouse rectification in advance. A label that cannot be rectified by the permitted sticker method, or where the expiry information is not provided by the manufacturer itself, is not eligible for the rectification dispensation and the consignment faces re-export or destruction, not merely a labelling amendment.
