Roasted
Roasted malt for food and brewing use
HSN 1107 20 00 (Roasted malt) is subject to Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Import Licence and labelling compliance under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including the FSS (Import) Regulations, 2017 and FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020. Import entry is restricted to designated food-import ports under General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of the ITC (HS) 2022, administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), with Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) oversight at the bill of entry.
- Import Licence from FSSAI
- Food grade certificate from FSSAI
- Specimen copy of label from FSSAI
Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.
- 1Obtain a valid FSSAI Import Licence before shipment and ensure it is uploaded in e-Sanchit under document code 911001. Also upload the Food Grade Certificate (document code 6570FS) and the Specimen Copy of Label (document code 0110FS) prior to filing the bill of entry; customs out-of-charge will not be granted until all three documents are verified in e-Sanchit.FSSAI Import Licence document code 911001 · Food Grade Certificate document code 6570FS · Specimen Copy of Label document code 0110FS · CBIC Instruction 09/2023-Cus dated 07-03-2023
- 2Route the consignment only through a designated food-import entry point as mandated under General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of the ITC (HS) 2022. Any consignment arriving at a non-designated port is liable to detention and re-export pending clearance from FSSAI.General Note 4(D) of Schedule I of ITC (HS) 2022 · CBIC Instruction 05/2023-Cus dated 08-02-2023
- 3Ensure the product label complies with the FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020, including per-serve percentage contribution to recommended dietary allowance and expiry/best-before dates. Rectifiable labelling deficiencies may be corrected at a customs-bonded warehouse by affixing a single non-detachable sticker next to the principal display panel, without altering the original label, before visual inspection by the authorised officer.CBIC Instruction 10/2022-Customs dated 28-06-2022 · FSSAI Letter 1828/Misc Matters/FSSAI/Imports-2021 dated 17-06-2022 · CBIC Instruction 09/2023-Cus dated 07-03-2023
The single most common error on this tariff line is uploading only the FSSAI Import Licence and overlooking the Food Grade Certificate (6570FS) and the Specimen Copy of Label (0110FS) as separately mandated e-Sanchit uploads. Customs officers on PGA-facilitated bills verify all three document codes before granting out-of-charge; a missing Food Grade Certificate alone is sufficient to trigger consignment detention and demurrage at the designated port. Rectifiable labelling provisions do not cure an absent Food Grade Certificate.
