- 3Verify the ITC (HS) policy category before filing: import is Restricted for general consignments but is Free for Grand Parent Stock of poultry. Consignments that cannot establish Grand Parent Stock status are subject to Restricted-import enforcement and risk detention at the port of entry.DGFT ITC (HS) import policy, Chapter 01 — Restricted with Grand Parent Stock carve-out
The most common error on this tariff line is failing to distinguish Grand Parent Stock status from other commercial poultry stock at the purchase-order stage. A consignment of live geese that cannot document Grand Parent Stock status arrives as a Restricted import without a DGFT licence, triggering detention, demurrage, and potential re-export; obtaining a retrospective licence after arrival is not available under the ITC (HS) regime. Confirm the breeding-tier classification with the exporter before the vessel departs.
