What the order does

S.O. 1319(E), dated 11 March 2026, supersedes the Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products (Quality Control) Order, 2025 entirely and comes into force from its date of gazette publication. It is the current governing instrument for BIS certification of aluminium and aluminium alloy products in all 17 covered categories.

All covered products must conform to their corresponding Indian Standard and bear the BIS Standard Mark under a licence granted under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. BIS is the certifying and enforcing authority.

The critical distinction – two deadline groups

The order's most important structural feature is its split implementation schedule. Seven product categories have no transition period at all, they are effective from the date of gazette publication, 13 March 2026. Manufacturers and importers of these products who are not already BIS certified are non-compliant from that date.

The remaining ten categories largely wrought aluminium general engineering products have a 1 December 2026 deadline for general manufacturers, giving a nine-month window from gazette publication.

Products and implementation dates

The latest version of each Indian Standard, including amendments notified by BIS from time to time, applies automatically.

The implementation dates by enterprise type – group b only

General manufacturers (other than micro and small enterprises): 1 December 2026.

Small enterprises: 1 March 2027.

Micro enterprises: 1 June 2027.

Group A - the seven immediately effective categories, carry no MSME phasing. All enterprise types, including micro and small, are required to comply from 13 March 2026 for those products.

What is excluded

Goods manufactured domestically for export are exempt. Up to 200 kilograms per year of aluminium products imported by manufacturers for research and development purposes are exempt, provided the goods are not sold commercially, are disposed of as scrap, and year-wise import records are maintained on company letterhead and furnished to the Central Government on request.
