Clocks and watches and parts thereof
HSN Chapter 91 covers clocks and watches and parts thereof. Within this chapter the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has notified 2 tariff lines — both electrically operated wrist-watches and pocket-watches falling under headings 9101 and 9102 — under the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order. Both codes carry the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) designation under Scheme-II of Schedule-II of the BIS Conformity Assessment Regulations, 2018.
The controlling standard is IS/IEC 62368-1 (IS 13252) for audio, video and information-and-communication-technology equipment safety, with IS 616 in concurrent running for an interim period defined by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Manufacturers, both Indian and foreign, must test a sample at a BIS-recognised laboratory, submit the test report on manakonline.in, file a self-declaration of conformity, and obtain an R-number that must appear on the product. CRS registration carries no factory inspection — the model-specific R-number is verified at Indian ports against the supplier name and product description.
