A word of counsel

The most common error on this tariff line is importing un-shredded scrap (HMS-I and HMS-II) without following the specific DGFT procedure under Para 2.54 of the HBP, as amended by DGFT Public Notice 38/2015-20 and its corrigendum Public Notice 40/2015-20. Importers who treat un-shredded and shredded scrap as interchangeable under a single PSIC invite detention and referral to the proper officer for non-compliance; the radioactive-contamination SOP applies regardless of scrap form and must be documented before out-of-charge is granted.
