Tungsten (wolfram) in powder form
HSN 8101 10 00 (tungsten powder) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code (IEC), bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Other forms of tungsten and tungsten articles — including waste, scrap, and fabricated products — fall under separate tariff lines within Chapter 81 that may carry distinct compliance obligations.
The absence of compliance at this tariff line applies specifically to tungsten in powder form; tungsten articles, rods, wire, and alloy products classified elsewhere in Chapter 81 may attract BIS Quality Control Orders or other requirements. Customs re-classification — for instance, from powder to a processed tungsten intermediate — triggers retrospective compliance and potential detention pending the applicable licence. Confirm that the product meets the technical definition of a powder, not a granule, pellet, or sintered form, before filing the bill of entry.
