Wire
Zinc wire, drawn from zinc bars or rods
HSN 7904 00 30 (zinc wire) is not covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order and carries no Partner Government Agency clearance requirement at the tariff-line level. Import follows the standard customs procedure: Importer-Exporter Code (IEC), bill of entry, commercial invoice, packing list. Zinc articles further processed into finished goods — such as zinc alloy castings or galvanised steel products classified elsewhere in Chapter 79 or Chapter 72 — may attract separate compliance obligations.
The absence of compliance at this tariff line applies specifically to zinc wire as a semi-finished wrought product; zinc alloys, zinc oxide (Chapter 28), and zinc-coated steel wire (Chapter 72) are governed by distinct tariff lines that may carry their own requirements. A customs officer who determines that the imported wire is an alloy rather than unalloyed zinc, or that it meets the description of a finished article, may re-classify the consignment — triggering retrospective duty recovery and detention pending resolution. Confirm alloy composition and intended end-use against the customs tariff schedule before filing the bill of entry.
