The most common oversight on this tariff line is assuming that a CM/L licence valid for standard round or flat alloy steel wire automatically covers trapezoidal-profile wire. IS 1804 licensing is scope-specific by product geometry and manufacturing facility; a CM/L covering a different wire profile does not extend to trapezoidal wire, and customs verifies the product-scope description on the licence against the shipping documents in real time. An out-of-scope CM/L triggers detention and potential re-export or confiscation of the consignment under Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016.
