Silico-manganese alloy steel wire
HSN 7229 20 00 (silico-manganese alloy steel wire) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order. Procedural directions for customs clearance are issued by: Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Directorate General of Foreign Trade.

The most common error on this tariff line is conflating the Steel and Steel Products QCO 2024 obligation (S.O. 3716(E), governing alloy steel wire) with the Ropes and Cordages QCO 2024 (S.O. 4327(E)), under which IS 1804:2004 separately governs steel wire rope fibre-main cores with effect from 01 April 2025. An importer who sources silico-manganese wire destined for downstream rope manufacture must satisfy the IS 1804 CM/L requirement under the steel-wire QCO at the point of import — the rope-QCO deferred enforcement window does not create any relaxation for the import of the wire itself under HSN 7229 20 00.
