HSN 7228 70 22 (alloy steel angles, shapes and sections of less than 80 mm) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order under the Steel and Steel Products Quality Control Order, 2024. Conformity to the Indian Standard mapped in Schedule 1 of S.O. 3716(E) is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 29 August 2024. Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.

The most acute risk on this tariff line is the deferred-enforcement tranche under S.O. 5134(E): importers who assume the 29 August 2024 enforcement date governs uniformly may overlook that specific Schedule 1 serial numbers have had enforcement suspended for one or three years from 20 November 2025. Equally, importers whose product serial number remains operative must not treat the deferral gazette as a general suspension — sub-standard product imported without a CM/L licence and standard mark is liable to disposal as scrap under Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016, regardless of SIMS registration status.
