Flat-rolled other alloy steel strip, painted, coloured or plastic-coated

HSN 7226 99 83 (flat-rolled products of other alloy steel, width less than 600 mm, painted, coloured or coated with plastics) is covered by a Bureau of Indian Standards Quality Control Order under the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020. Conformity to the Indian Standard mapped in Schedule 1 of S.O. 4637(E) is mandatory under the ISI Mark Scheme with effect from 22 December 2020. Steel Import Monitoring System registration administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade applies as a separate customs-clearance overlay.

   Source only from a Bureau of Indian Standards CM/L-licensed manufacturer holding a current licence against the Indian Standard applicable to this product under the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020. Verify the supplier's CM/L number, licensed product scope, and manufacturing facility on the BIS online register before placing the purchase order.

   Ensure every coil, strip, or sheet bears the ISI mark and the supplier's CM/L number as required under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Marking must appear on the product or its label, not on packaging alone.

   If the consignment lacks a BIS CM/L licence or certification, apply on the TCQCO portal for a clarification from the Ministry of Steel before import. This is mandatory for every such steel consignment per the Ministry of Steel circular dated 20-10-2023.

   Register the consignment on the Steel Import Monitoring System portal not earlier than 60 days before the expected arrival date. Fee ₹500, registration valid for 75 days; the automatic registration number must remain valid on the date of arrival.

   Quote the supplier's BIS CM/L number and the SIMS registration number on the bill of entry. Customs verifies the CM/L in real time against the BIS register and the SIMS number against the DGFT portal; either being absent, expired, or scope-mismatched triggers consignment detention.
