- 3Ensure each product in the consignment bears the ISI standard mark under the supplier's CM/L licence in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Also comply with CBIC instructions regarding Indian Standard verification for steel imports on the SIMS portal.Ministry of Steel Circular F.No. S-20011/14/2021-Tech dated 20-10-2023 · CBIC Clarification F.No. 401/88/2023-Cus.III dated 09-11-2023 · CBIC Instruction 16/2025-CUS dated 18-06-2025 as modified by CBIC Instruction 23/2025-CUS dated 15-07-2025
The single most acute risk on this tariff line is importing without first identifying the precise Indian Standard mapped against HSN 7226 99 82 in Schedule 1 of the Steel and Steel Products QCO, 2024 — the TCQCO portal clarification mechanism exists precisely because this mapping is not always self-evident for narrow-width alloy-coated strip. A consignment arriving with a test certificate referencing an adjacent or superseded IS number will be treated as non-conforming, triggering detention and potential disposal as scrap under Section 17(1)(b) of the BIS Act, 2016, regardless of how robust the supplier's internal quality controls may be.
